□ The International Biology Olympiad is a global biology competition that was first held in 1990 in the Czech Republic. Every year, four students under the age of 20 who have not received college education are sent to the competition from around the world as contestants to represent their country.
ㅇ Ever since first participating in the 9th IBO held in 1998 in Germany, every Korean team member has won a medal. Korean teams as a whole have ranked first in the competition four times.
□ The MSIP commented “Life science is an area where core technology development can directly lead to the creation of high added value. When we regard the continuously rising average life expectancy, identifying and nurturing extraordinary talent in life science is the foundation of not only stronger national competitiveness but also better citizen welfare. As such, the Ministry will continue its support in this effort.”
