Counselor Geungman Kim of OECD Delegation to Korea Appointed as Vice Chair of OECD Working Party of Communication, Infrastructure, Service Policy (November 19)
- Korea’s position on the global stage to be heightened including its telecom infrastructure technologies
□ The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced in the 59th OECD Working Party of Communication, Infrastructure, Service Policy (WPCISP) regular meeting (11.12.~11.13.) held in Paris, France, Director Geungman Kim (Counselor of OECD Delegation to Korea) was selected as the Vice Chair with one year tenure.
ㅇ The OECD WPCISP is a working group under OECD Committee on Digital Economy Policy (CDEP) taking charge of analyzing telecom infrastructure technologies and policy trends and discussing the future direction for cooperation.
ㅇ The working group mainly deals with emerging digital technologies that gain traction on the global stage such as 5G, blockchain and big data. WPCISP is receiving attention as the results of discussions have impact on analysis on ICT development trends of major countries and their policy making.
□ As Korea plans to commercialize 5G service in March next year, for the world’s first time, the appointment of Vice Chair of OECD WPCISP has implications for sharing 5G policies of Korea with the international community and heightening the national status of Korea on the global stage as the front-runner in the field of ICT.
□ MSIT expressed its expectations for the appointment of Vice Chair of OECD WPCISP from its public policy experts, which will contribute to leading global discussions on various digital emerging technologies including 5G.
