The MSIT announced that the 10th Korea-China Meeting of the Director-Generals for Radio Wave was held in Shenzhen, China from June 10(Mon) to June 11(Tue), with Director-General Yunkyu Park of the Radio Policy Bureau and Director-General XIE Yuan sheng of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) of China as the heads of delegations.

The Korea-China Meeting of the Director-Generals for Radio Wave was held on the sidelines of the WRC-03 in 2003 to discuss Sino-Korean cooperation in the radio sector.

* World Radiocommunication Conference(WRC): An international conference organized by the ITU-R.

At the past nine meetings, the two countries shared the experience of collaborating at international organizations, of addressing cross-border radio frequency interference, and of radio management at major international events such as the Olympics. Wireless communications, RFID, WiBro and next-generation broadcasting such as DMB were discussed, and cooperation was promoted in the areas of radio frequency monitoring and electromagnetic radiation safety.

No meeting was held since 2015, but at the WRC APG19-4 held in Busan in January 2019, the two countries agreed to resume the Meeting of the Director-Generals for Radio Wave.

At the 10th Korea-China Meeting of the Director-Generals for RadioWave, the delegations discussed cooperation measures for the agenda of the WRC-19, such as securing spectrum for 5G network.

The delegations also shared their key policies in the era of 5G network, such as the Third Radio Waves Promotion Master Plan, and sought for ways to maintain Sino-Korean cooperation.

Director-General Park of the Radio Policy Bureau said, “We shared information about Korea’s and China’s major radio policies and discussed the future direction for frequency policies in response to upcoming changes.”

He added, “I hope this meeting, which is held for the first time in 4 years since 2015, will strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries.”
