The Fourth Annual Meeting of CAMP (Oct 1)

- Delegates from 29 Countries Gathered to Discuss International Cooperation for Cybersecurity

The MSIT held the fourth Annual Meeting of CAMP* on October 1 at COEX, Samsung-dong to foster international cooperation and trust to respond to cyber threats.

* Cybersecurity Alliance for Mutual Progress

CAMP is an international consultative body launched in July 2016 under the initiative of the Republic of Korea with the purpose of implementing a safe cyber world by cooperating with the international community on cyber threats.

* CAMP members include 59 ministries and agencies from 45 countries (as of September 2019)

Fifty delegates from 29 countries, including Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the head of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, attended the annual meeting.

In particular, as this year’s annual meeting was held on the sidelines of the ISEC*, the meeting was advanced a step further, serving as a venue for sharing Korea’s cutting-edge data security technology and offering a cooperation opportunity for Korean and foreign businesses.

* International Security Conference: the largest comprehensive security conference in Asia

At the Annual Meeting, Members shared the status of the cybersecurity in their countries or regions and had an in-depth discussion about the progress of CAMP so far and its future activities. As KISA has renewed its tenure for the operation of CAMP for the next 3 years, Korea is going to continue a leading role in international cooperation for cybersecurity.

Assistant Minister Seokyoung Jang of the Office of ICT Policy of the MSIT said, “Data security is a critical building block of the success of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and a sustainable future of data economy. International cooperation is more important than ever in effectively responding to cyber threats.” He added, “I hope CAMP plays a key role in cybersecurity.”

CAMP is planned to be developed into trust-based platform for international cooperation among Members by sharing cyber threats information and expanding capacity building activities.

Through CAMP, the MSIT will raise Korea’s status as an international leader in cybersecurity and help Korea’s cybersecurity models and outstanding cybersecurity companies to be introduced in other countries.
