Science Ministries of Korea and Argentina Discussed Stronger Cooperation (Oct 8)

- MoU on Science and Technology Cooperation to Boost Bilateral S&T Cooperation

The MSIT had a meeting with Minister Lino Barañao of the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation on October 7 (Mon) at the MSIT building. Both sides discussed bilateral cooperation in science and technology and signed a memorandum of understanding on S&T cooperation.

Reflecting the changes in S&T environment, the MoU is about Korea-Argentina S&T cooperation on S&T policy sharing, education and training support and joint research related to both countries’ areas of interest, including data analysis, AI, biotechnology and nanotechnology.

Minister Barañao, who is in charge of the Argentine government’s S&T and industry innovation, hoped policy exchange for 5G and AI and a stronger cooperation in both public and private sectors.

Minister Choi explained changes in emerging industries and Korea’s S&T and ICT policies in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution to his counterpart.

Minister Choi suggested promoting researcher exchange and joint research, building on the Korea-Argentina S&T MoU, and enhancing cooperation in the private sector for new industries that incorporate 5G, AI and ICT, such as biomedicine and biotechnology.

The Argentine delegation will visit Korea’s renowned biotechnology and ICT organizations, including the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) and KT Corporation, to discuss cooperation in the private sector.
