KICT to Develop Customized Warm-Mix Asphalt Pavement Technology and Enter into the Vietnamese Market (October 8)
- Signed an MOD with Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) under the Ministry of Transport for cooperation.
- Promote the first ODA project to improve the Vietnamese road pavement technology.
□ KIST (Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology) signed an MOD (Minutes of Discussion) with DRVN (Director General Nguyen Van Hueyn) in Hanoi, Vietnam on October 8th with the aim of improving road pavement technology and applying warm-mix asphalt technology to Vietnam.
ㅇ On the occasion of the summit between Korea and Vietnam, the two institutes signed an MOU on Korea-Vietnam Transport Infrastructure Cooperation in March in presence of Director Lee Gyo-Sun of Construction Technology Safety Department of KICT and Deputy Director-General Thang of DVRN. This MOD holds particular significance in that it is practical agreement on the ODA project of ‘Vietnam Road Warm-mix Asphalt Technology Optimization Project’, which will be promoted as a follow-up measure to the MOU.
□ The MOD includes the following comprehensive areas of cooperation; Technical development cooperation in which traffic condition and climate in Vietnam are considered for optimal warm-mix asphalt technology; Provision of test pavement section; Training for road pavement technicians in Vietnam; and the establishment of warm-mix asphalt technology construction standards in Vietnam.
ㅇ The ODA project, pursued by KICT since August, is the first free ODA project that is promoted as part of the New Southern Policy of Korea. Korea-Vietnam Traffic Infrastructure Cooperation Center, which was established on the occasion of the state visit by President Moon to Vietnam, and Institute of Transport Science and Technology (ITST), which is a government-funded research institute in Vietnam, and other special institutes at home and abroad are participating in the project.
ㅇ It is expected that this MOD for the ODA project will serve as an opportunity for Korean SMEs to advance into the Vietnamese market with the advanced road pavement technology.
