ETRI and University of Oulu of Finland to Sign MoU on Next-generation Mobile communications(6G) (June 11)

The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister You Youngmin, hereinafter ‘MSIT’) announced that Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI, President Kim Myung-joon) and University of Oulu of Finland signed MoU on technological cooperation and joint research for 6G mobile communications.

The MoU was signed on June 10, local time at University of Oulu of Finland on the occasion of the President Moon Jae-in’s visit to Northern European countries with the goal of maximizing the effects of MoU signing. The two sides agreed to work together in the following areas of common interest.

University of Oulu of Finland has actively carried out 6G-related research by investing around 300 billion won for eight years from March 2018 and leading 6Genesis* project, world’s first flagship project in 6G mobile communication.

With the signing of the MoU, both sides can take part in each other’s programs, 6Genesis project of University of Oulu and B5G6G of ETRI.

- Global cooperation platform for next-generation mobile communications will be established in measures such as holding regular meetings where there will be sharing of research outcomes from B5G6G, still at its early stage of research across the globe.

As a result, international joint research on 6G mobile communications will be promoted and thus it will provide opportunity for Korea to gain a firm foothold as an ICT powerhouse.
